Hay Bales
OUR STORY BEGINS IN 2012: BRINGING THE LAND TO LIFE IN SANTA JUANA DE CHOMES, PUNTARENAS
In 2012, we decided to undertake a project on a piece of land that, at that time, lay idle and underutilized. Our initial task was to plant grass, and from that moment on, our commitment has been to constant growth and improvement. Every day, we strive to refine our operations and achieve our goals.
From the outset, one of our main objectives was to produce the highest number of hay bales possible, and to accomplish this, we implemented specific strategies.
VARIED AND BALANCED CLIMATE: A FUNDAMENTAL FACTOR INFLUENCING OUR OPERATIONS AND HAY BALE PRODUCTION
Regarding the climate on our hay bale farm, it is important to note that we experience two well-defined seasons throughout the year.
The warm season spans approximately 2.7 months, from February 4th to April 25th. During this period, temperatures reach a daily average of over 35°C. The hottest month in Puntarenas is April, with an average maximum temperature of 35°C and a minimum of 27°C.
On the other hand, the cool season extends for about 2.6 months, from September 6th to November 25th. During this season, daily temperatures average less than 33°C. October is the coldest month in our region, with an average minimum temperature of 25°C and a maximum of 32°C.
On average, the temperature on our farm remains around 26.0°C, according to statistical data. Additionally, we record approximately 3,127 mm of annual precipitation.

EXCELLENCE IN HAY BALE PRODUCTION
On our hay bale farm, we have an extensive land of 104 hectares. Here, we conduct a single planting each year, and what truly sets our process apart is the implementation of two annual harvests to ensure the quality and quantity of our hay bales.
One of the ongoing challenges in our work is to keep our lands free from weeds to ensure an optimal environment for the growth of our grass.
Our farm is a place where planning, constant care, and attention to detail come together to produce exceptional hay bales.
We are committed to delivering top-quality products to our customers and maintaining excellence in all our agricultural operations.
CULTIVATING WITH PASSION
On our hay bale farm, we have chosen the Transvala grass variety (Digitaria decumbens, cv. transvala) as our primary selection. This grass has excellent spreading and establishment capabilities, along with desirable traits for haymaking. One of its most significant characteristics is the protein content (approximately 5%) and in vitro digestibility above 50%.
SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES ON OUR HAY BALE FARM
Weed Control: We employ slashing techniques to keep our lands free from weeds, ensuring the preservation of our natural surroundings and avoiding contamination of nearby water sources.
Environmental Preservation: We maintain an extensive wooded area along the Lagarto River, maintaining a suitable distance to protect the health of this vital resource and minimize any negative environmental impact.
At every step, we prioritize sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the well-being of our local community.
TOWARDS A MORE PRODUCTIVE AND SUSTAINABLE HAY BALE FARM
Our future goal on the hay bale farm is clear: increase yield per hectare. To achieve this ambitious objective, we are focused on the strategic application of amino acids to supply plants with the necessary precursors and effectively nourish them. Our vision is to maintain a low environmental impact while nurturing plants to ensure they are stress-free, even in extreme temperature conditions and with a limited water supply. We are dedicated to continuous improvement and the implementation of sustainable practices that benefit both our operations and the environment. Plant nutrition with amino acids is an integral part of our strategy to achieve our goals on the hay bale farm and continually enhance performance. We are committed to moving towards a future where our cultivation is even more productive and environmentally respectful.
